Cedar Hill sits on the White Rock Escarpment at the southwest corner of the county, high enough that the ridge above town carries the cluster of broadcast towers serving the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Cedar Hill State Park covers roughly 1,800 acres along the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake inside the city limits. Build-out came later here than in neighboring cities, with most subdivisions going up from the 1990s onward on hilly, wooded lots. Cedar Hill ISD covers most of the city, and the Lake Ridge area on the west side extends into Midlothian ISD.
