Forney sits on US 80 in western Kaufman County, immediately east of Mesquite. It is known as the Antique Capital of Texas, and antique dealers still line the old highway frontage through town. Most recent growth is master-planned, in developments such as Devonshire and Gateway Parks, and the city levies fixed public improvement district assessments in those areas for roads, utilities, landscaping, and trails, which sit on top of the ordinary tax bill. Forney ISD covers the city and surrounding unincorporated land.
Forney sits in Kaufman County, where the combined property tax rate runs about 1.92 percent of market value for the 2025 tax year, ranging 1.75 to 2.25 percent depending on the school district.
