Rockwall is the seat of the smallest county in Texas by land area, sitting on the eastern shore of Lake Ray Hubbard where I-30 runs west toward Dallas about 20 miles away. The name comes from an underground stone formation settlers encountered in 1852. A historic courthouse square sits inland while The Harbor development fronts the lake, and the city also operates Ralph M. Hall Municipal Airport. The heaviest single-family building happened in the 2000s, the city is not yet fully developed, and Rockwall ISD serves it.
